Re: A little word about Antonio...
Was definitely struggling with an injury/his back, before the free kick for his goal you could see him out near the flank stretching his back....when he then made his run and scored i almost thought it was a ploy to throw off their defence!! Start of the 2nd half it took him about 5 minutes to get going, as if he had really stiffened up,

Credit to him last night he definitely played his part and gave it all.

People have short memories. Bloke was being absolutely slaughtered on here. He has had non stop injuries for the best part of two years and had clearly lost a bit of confidence. Good to see he is showing what he can do again now he has had a run of games.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
There was on point in second half he brought the ball down and went past a scouse player to then play a sublime ball without the outside of his foot to Anderson on the other side of the pitch.

Was top quality, shame 99 times out of 100 it dont get to Anderson.

Great post Chin. I did wonder why he was hobbling. But a great performance from him.

23 league goals in 98 appearances is not too shabby for someone who is supposedly not a footballer.

It was good to see him kick the ball 30 yards in front of him (and score) on purpose for a change. Normally that's just him dribbling.

" I just don't think he has the natural touch or footballing brain to be a top premier league player. "

I understand what you are saying. But the reality is he has been an extremely important part of a premier league team for a while now.

He's not conventional at all. But I don't know if we would still be in the league without him.

I do think he has got better is a touch more composed than when he first got here.

Antonio and Snodgrass both. And possibly Cresswell, too, although, like Snodgrass, his attitude never stank.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
Last summer I thought Antonio would have been out the door. One of Pellegrini's achievements this season has been to reinvigorate him. Last night was probably the best he has played this season.
He lacks finesse can frustrate teammates (and fans) but last night he was a proper handful and the sort of player the opposition hate because of his power and unpredictable movement.

Let's hope it continues

Good to see he's clearly taken some coaching and got some poise and confidence back to go with the energy and musculature.

That is what I thought and think.

Good for him for proving me wrong, right now. Same with most of us and Snodgrass, though not for the same reasons, to be fair.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
Just always thought he must be an absolute nightmare to defend against because he seems to have absolutely no idea what he's going to do next so you've got no chance of knowing.

Do wish he'd stop cutting in and trying to shoot on his left foot though, have a little chuckle to myself every time he balloons one towards the cornerflag.

I love it when he sets of an a run while controlling the ball with his ankles and/or shins.

I mostly love the bloke. He lost it a bit but seems to be back to his best.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
Irons: I've nothing against athletic footballers, I just don't think he has the natural touch or footballing brain to be a top premier league player. No doubt on his day he will scare any defence but he's as likely as not to let them off the hook with his final ball. So whilst the manager will be delighted with the improvement, I'm not sure he'll be in his long term plans.

All you can ask is a player makes the most of whatever he's got and he looks much more applied to that these last three months.

I saw on some highlight he was showing the physio on his back at half time.
